Six laboratories in three provincial centres may no longer have to wait for results of testing for export
food products from Port Moresby in the future, following the completion of a training programme to
assist laboratories to prepare for international accreditation. When the laboratories attain
international accreditation, they will be recognised internationally, meaning their test results will be
accepted by importers and consumers throughout the world. For exporters of local food products, this
will reduce the cost and time it takes to meet requirements of export markets; thus improving economic
and trade prospects.
